David Shawn Hale

David Shawn Hale, 51, of Bluefield, WV, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. David was born on February 25, 1959, and he grew up in Berwind, WV. He was a letterman on the 1976 Big Creek Owls state runner-up football team, and he was a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, the Biology Club, and the wrestling team. David graduated from Big Creek High School in 1977 and went on to attended Marshall University and Bluefield State College, where he earned his degree. For the past eleven years, he was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 857 in Bluefield. David was preceded in death by his father, John Arnold Hale. Surviving are his children, David Hale and Kacee Hale of South Point, OH; his mother, Jo Ann Hale of Berwind, WV; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas S. and Marti Hale of Dublin, VA; his sister, Karen Hawthorn of Pawcatuck, CT, his sister and brother-in-law April H. and David Nieuwenhuis of Seattle, WA; his aunt Frances G. Turner and cousin, John Robert Turner, both of Cucumber, WV; his aunts Juanita Hale and Pauline Hale of Newhall, WV; his girlfriend of ten years, Rita Harris of Bluefield, WV; and his foster son, Jonathan T. O’Hearn of Bluefield WV. David will be remembered by friends and family as a talented, generous, and loving man. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV is in charge of David’s arrangements. In accordance with his wished David was cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in David’s name.
