Goldie Ellen O'Donnell

ROCK — Goldie Ellen Wagner O'Donell, age, 90, of 6037 Rock River Road, Rock, W.Va., passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010 at her home. Born on March 31, 1920 in Montcalm, she was a daughter of the late M.C. and Zenobia Wagner. She had been a resident of Rock for 53 years and was a member of the Rock United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Bluefield. She was retired from the Mercer County Board of Education with 30 years of service as a cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Wesley O'Donell; a son, Roger O'Donell (September of 2009); brothers, Fred Wagner, and Horace Wagner; and sisters, Emma Morris, Allene Shutt, Sally Messer, and Eutrace Young. She was the last member of her family. Survivors: Son, Larry O'Donell and wife Linda of Rock, W.Va.; daughter, Mary Ellen Syres and husband Johnny of Rock, W.Va.; grandchildren, Brian Syres and girlfriend Sheri Boothe of Rock, W.Va., Anthony Syres and wife Stacey of Rock, W.Va., Pamela Rutherford and husband Paul of Bluefield, Va., Leslie McPherson and husband Danny of Galax, Va., Larry O'Donell, Jr. and companion Deliah of Bluefield, W.Va.; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Christpher Rutherford, Britany and Casey McPherson, and Joel and Wesley O'Donell; special caregiver, Jackie Compton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverend David Damewood and the Reverend David White officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where pallbearers will be friends of the family. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
