David Lindsey Martin, 55, died Monday, April 26,2010 in Bluefield, Va. at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel T. and Frances Minnix Martin. Mr. Martin was born on July 28, 1954 in Roanoke, Va. and attended several schools there: Belmont Elementary, Stonewall Jackson Junior, and Jefferson Senior High (class of 1972). He then attended Roanoke College (class of 1979) and received his master’s degree in library science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1980. While at Roanoke College, he worked as a student assistant in the college library and, later, as a student assistant while at UTK. His first professional position (as Technical Services Librarian) was with Southwest Virginia Community College near Richlands, Va. He then served as Head of Technical Services at the Chattanooga-Hamilton County (Tenn.) Public Library before returning to Virginia to serve as Technical Services Librarian at the Tazewell County Public Library, a position he held for 24 years until his retirement in March 2009. Survivors include his aunt, Euna Martin Brown, of Lynchburg, Va. and his special cousins Melody Minnix Kraft of Sterling, Va. and Cynthia Minnix Rebibo of Oakton, Va. as well as other cousins and close friends, including special friend Michael L. Pickrel. In accordance with Mr. Martin’s wishes, he has been cremated and his ashes will be privately interred next to his mother in Sherwood Memorial Park. There will be no graveside service. However, a reception celebrating his life will be held at Tazewell County Public Library on May 16th from 4-6pm.
