Walter R. “Bud” Bailey, 80, of P.O. Box 536 Pocahontas, Virginia 24635 went to be with the LORD on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Walter was born on December 09, 1929 in Maybeury, West Virginia to the late Frank and Della Woods Bailey. He was a retired coal miner and former employee of U.S. Steel #9 Gary, West Virginia. He was a member of the UMWA. Bud was a veteran of the Korean War, serving proudly in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 14 Pocahontas, Virginia. He was a member of the Coaldale Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a church deacon and superintendent of Sunday school.
In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by three brothers; William, Ray and Everette Bailey.
He is survived by his loving wife, of sixty years

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with the Rev. Roger Lacy and Rev. Dave Lusk. Burial will follow at the Sluss Family Cemetery in Pocahontas, Virginia. Military graveside rites will be held by the American Legion Post # 14 Pocahontas, Virginia and VFW Post 9696 Bluefield, Virginia.
Friends and family may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
