Lawrence A. Chapman, 94 of Gary, West Virginia passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the McDowell Nursing Home in Gary.
Born in Saltville, Va, he was the son of the late Fred and Malenda Surber Chapman. He was a resident of Thorpe for the past 40 years. He attended the Wilcoe Church of God. He retired from US Steel where he was the railroad dump operator at the cleaning plant in Gary.
Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Thompson Chapman; three sisters; Virgie Chapman, Kathleen Hunt and Georgie Hunt, and six brothers; Isaac H. Chapman, Bernie Willard Chapman, Phillip S. Chapman, Glenn D. Chapman, Verlin H. Chapman, Paul A. Chapman,.
He is survived by a son Joseph Chapman of Kernersville, NC and a daughter Phyllis Loraine Mounts of Gary, three grandchildren; Donna Brown of Kernersville, NC, Michael A. Harris of Claypool Hill Va., Pamela R. Harris of Welch, two great-grandchildren; Tiffany Nicole Brown of Raleigh, NC and Samantha Harris of Bluefield, Va.; and two brothers, Charlie R. Chapman, Jonah F. Chapman of AltaVista, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 1:00 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Roy Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.
