Douglas Burton Riggs

Douglas Burton Riggs, age 59, of Rt. 2, Box 140, Rock, West Virginia died on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at his home. Born on August 2, 1950 in Bluefield, he was a son of June Gilmore Shoda of Bluewell and the late Albert Riggs. He had lived in Mercer County his entire life and was a member of the Voice of Praise Worship Center. He had been a shop manager at Belcher’s Hydraulic Hose Company. He was a veteran of Vietnam having served in the US Army. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step-father, George M. Shoda and his grandmother, Flora Boyd. Survivors: Wife: Sandra Kay Johnson Riggs of the home Daughters: Cynthia Denise Gore and husband Jason of Bluefield, WV Amanda June Valentine and husband Sid, Jr. of Elkview, WV Brothers: James Riggs of Bluefield, WV Jon Timothy Riggs of Vero Beach, FL John David Shoda of Bluefield, WV Sister: Marie Nash and husband Marty of Bluefield, WV Grandson: Joshua David Gore Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Andy Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Military Graveside Honors will be performed by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Lilly, Dale Kendrick, Kevin Kendrick, Curtiss Christian, Joe Thomason, and David Thomason. Friends may call from Noon until 1:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service.
