The Rev. Thurman Edward Hoback, age 83, of HC 31, Box 3810 Skygusty, WV died on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home. Born on July 2, 1926 in Watauga, TN, he was a son of the late Garnie and Emma Scott Hoback. He had been a resident of Skygusty for the past 55 years. He was a US veteran of WWII. He had served in the ministry since 1954. He had pastored faithfully in churches in Brewsterdale and Skygusty, WV. He had served as a member, pastor and bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ. In addition to his ministry, he was a retired coal miner with 34 years of service to the US Steel Coal Mines. He was a UMWA member. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Cpl. Douglas Hoback; sisters, Arlene Stagg and Ruth Feathers; and brothers, Harrison Hoback and Leroy Hoback. Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Elsie M. Wyatt Hoback of the home Son: Tony Hoback and wife Pam of Mt. Gilead, OH Daughters: Carolyn Ball and husband Lonnie of Skygusty, WV Kathryn Marrs and husband Roney of Brewsterdale, WV Darlene Belcher and husband David of Skygusty, WV Sister: Nellie Friese of Princeton, WV Grandchildren: Melissa Woolridge, Aimee Dillon, Nick Marrs, Joshua Ball, Brenton Belcher, Elizabeth Snyder, and Leigh-Anna Snyder Great-Grandchildren: Ryan and Kaiden Dillon, Bradi and Cherridan Marrs, Layla and Aaliyah Ball, Dakota Wells, and Emma Lockman Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. Rev. Arnold Marrs and Rev. Roney Marrs will officiate. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where grandsons and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Ryan Dillon and Bradi Marrs. Military Graveside Honors will be performed by the West Virginia Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
