Charles Jasper Smothers, Jr., age 59, of Bluefield, WV, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 2, 1950 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of Ella Mae Williams Smothers and the late Charles J. Smothers, Sr. of Bluefield. He had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a member of the Brushfork United Methodist Church since 1967. He was employed by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for the past 22 years and was a founder and pillar of the Southern WV Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Mercer County Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Mary Irvin.

Dr. Daniel Patrick Smothers and wife Angel Taylor Smothers of Morgantown, WV and their three children, Jacob Bryce (9), Sarah Elizabeth (4), and Ella Mae Nicole (5 mos.)
1 daughter: Amanda Yvonne Roten and husband Jason of Bluefield and their children, Gabriella Yvonne (3) who was very special to him because she is a special child and Carson Alexander (20 mos.)

And his five dogs, Snuffie, Priddy, Baby, Daisy, and Sasha, which he loved very much.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Bluefield Auditorium with Rev. D. Homer Stewart and Rev. Chris Arveson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Don Cook, Mike Crowder, Jose Centeno, Antony Iafolla, Rodney Price, John Witt, and Jesse Ruble will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the Bluefield Auditorium.
