Everett Samuel Harris, 86, of 101 Lakeland Park Bluefield, West Virginia passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Harris was born on January 05, 1923 in Twin Branch, West Virginia to the late Hewitt Samuel Harris and Mattie Lee Johnson Harris. He had been resident of Mercer County for the past 21 years. Everett was a retired coal miner with 39 years of service; he was a member of the UMWA, AARP and Welch Masonic Lodge #112 and Greenview United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the United States Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Hazel Virginia Harris and his second wife Martha Cochran Harris, One Daughter Sharon Kae Harris, three brothers; Jack Tate, James Warren and Wilburn Harris and one sister Nova Lee Rollins. Survivors include: His wife Sarah (Connie) Dillon Harris of the home, two sons: Jerry Wayne Harris and wife Wynney of Bolivar, Ohio and Dale Gordon Harris and wife Nellie of Burton, Michigan. One sister: Ada Sue Harris Moses of Huntington, West Virginia. Three Step-sons; Joe Forgona and wife Lisa of Palm Beach, Florida, Tommy Thompson and wife Katrina of Rocky Mount, Virginia and Billy Thompson and wife Shirley of Salem, Virginia and one step-daughter Barbara Arnold and husband Dale of South Carolina. Five grandchildren; Mark, Todd, Brian, Chris and Virginia Chadwell and five great grandchildren Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with the Rev. Brent Brown and Rev David Barnett officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield, West Virginia where the Welch Masonic Lodge #112 will be holding Masonic graveside services along with the West Virginia Honor Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council who will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and family may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Welch Masonic Lodge #112 will be serving as pallbearers along with R.J. Reyholds, Bill Crouse, Vernon Fields, Richard Bishop, Matt Yurkovich and Walter Taylor serving as honorary pallbearers.
