Robert Whitney “Red” Hedrick, age 80, of Route 3 Box 649 (Lorton Lick Road), Bluefield, WV, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Beckley.
Born on June 13, 1928 in Brushfork, he was a son of the late James Everett and Ethel D. Wise Hedrick. He had been a lifelong resident of Bluewell and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bluewell where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was a veteran of the US Army, served during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. He formerly worked for Virginia Foods and as a caretaker for Woodlawn Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice D. Whitehouse Hedrick; and a brother, Emmette H. Hedrick.
Survivors include his daughter, Janice Hurst and husband Robert of Bluewell; three grandchildren, Buddy & Hope Hurst of Bluewell, and Jessica Bender of Bluewell; two sisters, Thelma Keesee of Peell, WA and Dale Brown of El Paso, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Ron Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where friends and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the WV Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
