Howard Gordon French, age 68, of PO Box 172, Anawalt, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at a Bluefield hospital. Born on February 13, 1942 in Gary, he was a son of the late Howard and Gladys Stoneman French. He had been a resident of Anawalt for 14 years and was a retired letter carrier from the US Postal Service. He was a six year veteran of US Army, served in Vietnam, was a member of the DAV and was a lifetime member of the VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister. Survivors include: Special friend and companion: Amanda “Kay” Heffinger of Anawalt Her family: Sherry Walker and Chris of Nashville, TN Steven Heffinger and Dana of Lincolnton, NC Jacob, Jason Walker and Samantha Heffinger Son: Jeffery Allen French and Sherry of Goldsboro, NC 1 daughter: Melissa Jeffery and Scott Scott of Goldsboro, NC 2 grandchildren: Jason and Emily French of Goldsboro, NC 2 brothers: James Boyd French and Sherry of Lexington, VA Winfred Lynn French and Scott of Ft. Pierce, FL Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Clifton Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will be performed by the WV Honor Guard. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the family.
