PSALM 30:5 For His anger endureth but for a moment; in His favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning….. Kay Francis Smith, age 62, of Crystal, WV, departed this life on January 3, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center following a long illness. Born November 28, 1947, in Crystal, she was the daughter of the late Pearl L. Bompus. She was a graduate of Montcalm High School in Mercer County. She worked in the nursing field for 27 years at Bluefield Regional Medical Center until she was forced to retire due to poor health. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, her mother, her grandmother, mother-in-law, and husband, Emmett Smith, Jr. whom she cared for until his death. Kay will always be known and remembered for her soft spoken, loving, caring and nurturing nature that made her so special to all that loved her so dearly. Kay leaves behind many fond memories in the treasures of her life. Kay was an active member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Crystal until she became a primary caregiver for her ailing mother-in-law and husband until the time of their deaths and her own health became poor. Left to cherish her memory are her: Sons: Darrell Smith and wife Jennifer of Clinton, NC Dennis Smith of Crystal, WV DeWayne Smith and wife Andrea of Berenton, WA Loving sister and caregiver: Dreama Anderson who stayed faithfully by her side during her illness Other sisters: Henrietta Buckhanon of North Wilkesboro, NC Janet Jones and husband Willie of North Wilkesboro, NC Anita Hairston and husband Ralph of Maybeury, WV Brothers: Robert Galloway of Maybeury, WV Melvin Bompus of Wilkesboro, NC Steven Bompus and wife Melissa of Hickory, NC Sister-In-Law: Lorraine Clark and husband Clifton of Bluefield, WV Uncle: Stanley Bompus of Huntington, WV Grandchildren: Tashaleka, Tiara, Jasmine, Brianna, Dedrick, Davon and Andrew and great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved, twins, Janiah and Jamiah. Special niece: Jennifer who fondly referred to her as “Granny” and several other nieces, nephews and friends that she held so dear to her heart. In respect to Kay’s specific personal wishes, there will be no funeral ceremony. Her family and friends will meet at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on Friday, January 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM. A short committal service will be held at 11:30 AM at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Route 20 with Rev. Walter Lawson, Jr. officiating. Her nephews and family members will serve as pallbearers. Care for the services of the Smith family has been entrusted to the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home.
