BLUEFIELD — Rex E. Farmer, age 61, of Route 3 Box 606 (Lorton Lick Road), Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh with his wife and sister Sarah by his side. Born on December 10, 1948 in Goodwill, he was a son of Raymond and Nina Griffith Farmer of Bluefield. He had been a resident of Bluefield for most of his life and belonged to the Jesus Name Church. He formerly worked as machine operator for the Celanese Company in Narrows, Va. He loved golf and enjoyed volunteering for the Special Olympics. He was a U.S. Army veteran, served in Vietnam and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife of 38 years, Sherree Surface Farmer of the home; son, Jeremiah Farmer and wife Melissa of Bluefield; beloved grandson who was the love of his life, Cody Farmer; two brothers, Randy Farmer and wife Dinah of Alabama, Blaine Farmer and wife Carol of Bluefield; two sisters, Sarah Riggs and husband Larry of Bluefield, Fern Hartwell and husband Bane of New York; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Minister Paul Delida officiating. Military honors will be performed by the WV National Honor Guard. Burial will follow with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 10:30 a.m. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
