Gladys Belcher Lane

November 30, 1926 — February 5, 2010

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2nd Corinthians 5:8 On February, 5, 2010, God and his angels carried Mrs. Gladys Belcher Lane, age 83, of 144 Oak Ridge Place, Mt. Airy, NC, to her heavenly home from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Mrs. Lane was born on November 30, 1926 to the late Emanuel “Doc” and Sarah Belcher of Pineville. She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Princeton. While living in Mount Airy the last four years, she attended Mount Airy First Pentecostal Holiness Church with her family. Mrs. Lane became a homemaker when she married 60 years ago and dedicated her entire life to her family and serving the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Sylvia Blevins, Alice Belcher and Verda Green; and three brothers, Ivan Belcher, Cecil Belcher, and Paris Belcher. She has one surviving brother, Walter Belcher and wife Kathy of Princeton. Other family members left to cherish her beautiful memories are her: Husband: Archie Lane of the home 2 sons: Roger Lane Sr., of Mt. Airy, NC Alan Lane of Bristol, VA Daughter: Karen Lane Hatmaker and husband Jerry of Mt. Airy, NC 4 grandchildren that she dearly loved: Roger Lane, Jr. of Radford, VA Angela Hatmaker Thompson and husband Steve of Mt. Airy, NC Jerry Hatmaker, II and wife Amanda of Mt. Airy, NC Tiffany Trent Lester and husband Greg of Iager, WV She adored seven great grandchildren: Miranda and Savanah Thompson of Mt. Airy, NC Chloe, Malachi and Matthew Hatmaker of Mt. Airy, NC Kylie Lester of Iaeger Joshua Calfee-Lane of Radford, VA Special sister in law: Barbara Belcher of Huntington, WV Many nieces and nephews that she loved to spend time with Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastors Tommy Vass, Thurman Belcher and Kevin Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Danny Smith, Kelly Belcher, Steve Thompson, Jerry Hatmaker, II, Roger Lane, Jr., and Greg Lester will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Sunday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the family.
