Frances McGuire Mitchell

November 27, 1921 — January 22, 2010

Frances McGuire Mitchell, age 88, of Littlesburg Road, Bluefield, WV, entered the gates of Heaven to meet her glorious Savior on Friday, January 22, 2010. Born on November 27, 1921 in Cedar Bluff, VA, she was a daughter of the late Baylor and Martha Louise Belcher McGuire. After graduation from Richlands High School, she attended West Virginia Business College. Upon attaining her Business Degree, she returned home to Cedar Bluff to work at Dixie Grocery before entering the United States Marine Corps in June of 1943. She proudly served her country for 2 ½ years as a Corporal at Quantico Marine Base. She was honorably discharged in January of 1946. Mom-aw continued to serve her country by being an active member in the American Legion Post #9. She was very compassionate about giving back to her community. She received much recognition for her work in Wythe County where she resided for 23 years. Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling, reading, painting, and enjoying the outdoors from her front lawn swing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Orville Dale Mitchell; 2 brothers, Bud and Carter McGuire; and 3 sisters, Virginia Burress, Louise Pruett, and Helen Baxter. Survivors include: 2 Sons: Richard “Dickie” Mitchell and wife Rhonda of Littlesburg Road, Bluefield, WV Stephen Mitchell and wife Sylvia of Bluefield Tazewell Road 2 grandchildren: Shawn Mitchell and Misty Neal 2 great-grandchildren: Jaidan “Doodle Bug” and Talia Neal A brother-in-law: Charles Duncan of Marion, VA as well as several nieces and nephews She is also survived by a very special friend, Helen Brady of Wytheville, VA There will be no funeral services and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your nearest Veteran’s Hospital. Her final resting place will be Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
