Howard Clinton Sturges, 87, of 2033 Virginia Ave. Bluefield, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Sturges was born on July 24, 1922 in Falls Mills, Virginia to the late Stanley Sturges and Edna Tabor Sturges. Mr. Sturges had been a resident of Bluefield, Virginia for the past 13 years. He served his country in WWII with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Sturges was a former machinist and mechanic.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Billie Jean Harmon Sturges of the home, two sons: Ron Sturges and wife Susan of Great Falls, Virginia, Don Sturges and wife Sherry of Richland, Virginia, two step sons: Roger Page and wife Margaret of Texas and Robert Page and wife Judy of Bluefield, Virginia. One daughter: Sparkle Bland and husband Jimmy of Salem, Virginia and one sister Betty Jean Sarver of Bluefield, West Virginia. Eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with the Minister Tony Reed officiating the service. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. Where VFW Post# 9696 of Bluefield, Virignia and American Legion Post# 14 Pocahontas, Virginia will be conducting Military graveside rites along with the West Virginia Honor Guard.
Friends and family may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. until time of the services at 1:30 p.m.
