Jack N. Gilmore, 85 of Maple Acres, Princeton WV went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28th at his home. He was born on March 15, 1924 in Freeman, WV, and was a son of the late Charles Wesley and Laura Newman Gilmore. Jack graduated from Pocahontas High School and Exxon Retail School. He owned and operated the Green Valley Exxon Service Station in Green Valley for 21 years and the Bluewell Exxon Service Station for 4 years. He was formerly employed by Pocahontas Fuel Company and US Steel as a laboratory assistant. Jack loved fishing since he was a young boy and also loved to hunt. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Greenview United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Legion of Honor of Beni Kedem Shriners, member of Bluefield Shrine Club, Member of Graham 022 Knights Templar of Bluefield, Va., member of Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Virginia, W.G. Bottimore No. 28, and a life member of the Pocahontas Masonic Lodge. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Cape Gloucester. Proceeded in death by one son: Robert Allen Gilmore and one sister: Elizabeth Buckland. Survivors: Wife-Shirley Marrs Gilmore of the home Son: Jack N. Gilmore, II and wife Jenny of Houston, Texas Grandchildren: Joshua, Jana, Justin and Joy Gilmore of Houston, TX Aaron Gilmore of Portland, Oregon John Gilmore of California Brother: Charles Gilmore of Pocahontas, Va. Nieces: Georgia Carbaugh of Bluefield VA Sharon Gravely of Anchorage Alaska Lynn Chance of Charlotte, NC Brother-in-law: William Marrs of New Smyrna Beach, Florida Loving caregivers Sabrina and Krystin Robinette, Rick Lambert, and Diane Cadawallder. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Brent Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Monte-Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield where military honors will be performed by the WV Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veteran’s Council. The Pocahontas Masonic Lodge members will also perform graveside rites and serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
