Lucy Hazel Shaffer

Lucy Hazel Shaffer, age 101, of Route 4 Box 511 (Warden Avenue, Bluewell), Bluefield, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at her residence. Born on June 1, 1909 in Swords Creek, WV, she was a daughter of the late James B. and Margaret Perkins Strouth. She had been a resident of Bluewell since 1937 and was of the Methodist faith. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl D. Shaffer, Sr.; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include: 4 sons: Ted Shaffer and Doris of Bluewell Carl Shaffer, Jr. and Sarah of FL Dallas Shaffer and Jennie of Keyser Jerry Shaffer and Sandy of PA 3 daughters: Faye Hale of Bluewell Betty Thomas of Morgantown Barbara Sells of Bluewell 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren 1 brother: Eual Strouth of MI Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Stephen Rector officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
