Betty Spencer Wellman

Bluefield – Betty Spencer Wellman, age 86 of Bluewell went to be with the Lord and other family members on Thursday, August 26, 2010. She died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. Born on February 21, 1924 in McComas, she was the daughter of James William Spencer and Ginny Cochran Spencer. Betty had been a resident of Bluewell for 20 years and had formerly made her home in Montcalm and McComas. She was a homemaker, a talented seamstress, wonderful cook and adventurous traveler. A member of the VFW Auxiliary and Bluewell Woman’s Club, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, David E. Wellman and an infant son, Richard Wellman. She was the last surviving member of her family. Survivors include two sons, Howard Wellman and wife Beverly, of Bluewell, and Tim Wellman and wife, Cathy of Bland, VA. Grandchildren, Wendy Wellman of Narrows, Scott Wellman and wife, Andrea of Christiansburg, VA, Christy Scott of Bastian, VA and Jennifer Britton and husband Jeffrey of Salem, VA. Great-grandchildren, Derek and Emily Richards, Bastian and Spencer and Parker Britton, Salem. Special thanks to caregivers Connie,Tammy, Julie, Vickie, Crystal, Tonya, Martha, Michelle, Judy, Mary and Andrea. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make donations should mail them to Amedisys Hospice, Rt. 2, Box 180, Bluefield, WV. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with Rev. Paul Looney and Pastor Donn Sunshine officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell, WV. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Saturday, August 28 from 6:00-8:00.
