Gaines Alfred Davis

Gaines Alfred Davis, Sr. age 79, of 312 Valleydale Street, Apartment C-2, Bluefield, Virginia, formerly of Pocahontas, went home to be with the LORD after a long illness on Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home with his family surrounding him. Born on October 15, 1930 in Pocahontas, Virginia, he was a son of the late Kelly Jackson and Fannie Deborah Lewis Davis. He had lived in Pocahontas for 77 years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army. He was a retired coal miner and was a member of the Pocahontas Post #14 American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Robert Lee Davis and Gaines Alfred Davis, Jr.; brothers, Jesse, Stanley, and Kelly D. Davis; daughter-in-law, Una Mae Davis and grandson, Robert Hopewell, Jr. Survivors: Wife of 56 years: Mildred A. Davis of the home Son: Timothy Wayne Davis and wife Judy of Indian Trail, North Carolina Daughter: Pamela Kay Davis Goad and husband Roger of Fayetteville, North Carolina Sisters: Lois Anne Jarvis of Florida Phyllis Davis Curtis of Reidsville, Ohio Shelby Jean Davis Bright of Laurel Creek Road, Pocahontas, Virginia Grandchildren: Garrett Lee Davis, Joshua Goad, Michael Davis, David Davis, Angela Fritz, and Nicole Milton. Great-grandchildren: Caleb Fritz, Justin Fritz, Hannah Fritz, Garrett Milton and Graham Milton Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Chaplain Adam Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. Military graveside honors will be performed by the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
