BLUEFIELD, WV--- William Ernest “Bill” Sizemore, Sr., age 85, of 389 Harry Heights Road, Bluefield, WV passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at MCV, Richmond, VA with his family at his bedside. Born November 17, 1924 at Pike Co. KY he was the son of the late Ellis B. and Myrtle Ellen King Sizemore. Mr. Sizemore was a resident of Bluefield for the past 50 years. Bill was the retired owner and operator of Bluefield Retreading and Vulcanizing Company Inc. of Bluefield, WV. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Brushfork United Methodist Church. Mr. Sizemore was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran for 6 ½ years. Having served on the U.S.S. LST 267 The Phantom Ship. While on the LST 267 Bill was included in three major battles those being the Saipan Invasion D-Day June 15, 1944, Peleliu Invasion D-Day September 15, 1944, and the Okinawa Invasion D-Day April 1, 1945 earning the LST 267 crew five battle stars for World War II service.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Six Grandchildren, Leslie Sizemore of Charlotte, NC, Wendy Taylor and husband Scott of Knoxville, TN, Todd Sizemore of the U.S. Marines Camp Lejune, Amanda Sizemore of Richmond, VA, Taylor Ann Sizemore of Richmond, VA, and Robin Elizabeth Sizemore of Richmond, VA.
Two Great-grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Taylor of Knoxville, TN
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with Rev. Chris Arveson and Rev. D. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell, WV. where the WV Honor Guard and Mercer Co Veterans Council will conduct full Military graveside rites
Friends may call Monday, May 24, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers.
