Gertrude Gibson

Gertrude Damron Gibson, age 93, of the Princeton Health Care Center, Princeton, WV, and formerly of 816 Carolina Avenue, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the nursing home. Born on March 16, 1916 in Huntington, WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Zora Osborn Damron. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a past member of the Bluefield, WV Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and loved to sew and crochet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl V. Gibson; a brother and sister in law, Gordon and Mildred Damran; a brother, Eugene R. Damron and twin brother, Charles Damron; sister, Lucille Damron; and brothers in law, E.F. Richardson, James Gibson, and Marvin Gibson. Survivors include her son, Carl Thomas Gibson and wife DeLana of Brushfork; 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sister, Lena Richardson of Princeton, sisters in law, Frances Damron, Mildred Gibson, Patricia Munsey, Dorothy Gilgore, Ruth Gibson,; several nieces and nephews, and the special caregivers at Princeton Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 8:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Bynum Orr and Rev. James Davidson officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
