Mary Claudine Goforth Webb, age 84, of 336 S. College Avenue, Bluefield, VA passed away peacefully following a short illness on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the home of her son, Dan Webb, in Bluefield, VA. Born on July 11, 1924 in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Ella Mae Harry Goforth. She had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a longtime member of the Midway Church of Christ. She was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Midway Home Demonstration Club, the Mall Walkers, the Senior’s Club of St. Luke’s Hospital, and the Joy Saints Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Emmett Goforth; sisters, Francis Hedrick, Willie Hill, Bobbi Shrader, and Peggy Lee Goforth; and a son in law, Kenny Whitteker. Survivors include her devoted husband of 65 years, William R. “Bill” Webb of the home; children, Bill Webb, Jr. and wife Jenny of Bluefield, WV, Pam Whitteker of Christiansburg, VA, Dan Webb and wife Janeen of Bluefield, VA, and Gina Veach and husband Larry of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Rob Webb, Scott Whitteker, Brad Veach, Brian Whitteker, Wendy Olinger, Jason Webb, Becky Ostopowicz, Benji Whitteker, Katie Staton, Adam Matney and Jeff Matney; 20 great grandchildren; a special adopted granddaughter, Brieana Walker; brother, H.T. Goforth of Blacksburg, VA; sisters, Lucille Remines of Bluefield, VA and Janetta Sarver of Bluefield, WV; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving and dedicated caregivers, Debra Wooley and Emma Rice. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Midway Church of Christ, 417 Old Bramwell Road, Bluefield, WV with her son Minister Dan Webb and son in law, Minister Larry Veach officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the church. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell by 10:30 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Way Christian Church Building Fund, 417 Bramwell Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
