Phyllis Jean Wingate, age 59, of P.O. Box 104, Davy, WV, died on Friday May 22, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born on January 22, 1950 in Welch, WV, she was a daughter of Donna Justice Blizzard of Princeton and the late Billy E. Stevenson. She had lived in Davy all of her life and was a graduate of Welch High School and Concord College. She was a school teacher having taught for 35 years in the McDowell County School System. She was a member of the First Church of God on Stewart Street in Welch where she was a member of the Women of the Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Wingate and a brother, Daniel Stevenson. Survivors:Husband: George H. Wingate of the home Son: George A. “Adam” Wingate and fiance’ Heather Powers of Premier, WV Mother and Step-Father: Donna and Floyd Blizzard of Princeton Brother: Billy E. Stevenson Jr. and wife Margo of Harragate, TN David Stevenson of Princeton, WV Sister: Nancy Rotenbery and husband Terry of Princeton Grandchildren: Aden and AaLayah Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the First Church of God on Stewart Street in Welch, WV with Rev. Virginia Russ officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell and at the church one hour prior to the service. The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
