PRINCETON - Ricky Dean Adkins, age 55, of Princeton, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born on January 7, 1954 in Princeton, he was son of the late Oble Lee Adkins and Lorene Beatrice Collins. He has been a lifetime resident of Mercer County and a graduate of Montcalm High School Class of 1973. Mr. Adkins was a Captain of Bluefield City Fire Department, employed part-time with American Electric Power, owner of Rick’s Body Shop, and a former Crane Creek coal miner. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt, fish, and ride his Goldwing. He was a geniune man who was known for his honesty, determination, wisdom, and loyalty to those he knew and loved. Family and friends could always trust and depend on Rick. He will be dearly missed and will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 36 years, Darlene Adkins; his children, Hope Blevins and husband Jason of Princeton, Justin Adkins and wife Candace also of Princeton; his grandchildren Sydney Adkins, Matthew Blevins, and expected grandchild; four brothers; six sisters; and special canine companion, Ike.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton with Rev. Kenneth Price officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Blevins, Matt Johnston, TJ Powell, Travis Hall, Adam Pettrey, and Sid Hubbard.
