Donald Lee Cook

Donald Lee Cook, Sr. age 65, of PO Box 254, Boissevain, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at his residence. Born on October 12, 1943 in Oceana, he was a son of the late Dr. Ted R. and Lillian Cooke Cook. He had been a resident of Boissevain for 40 years and was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church. He was a coal miner and was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Poseno Cook; a sister, Leah Mathena; and a brother, Teddy Ray Cook. Survivors include his daughter, Sherry McGuire and husband J. C. of Abbs Valley, VA; two sons, Donald Lee Cook, Jr. and wife Alice of Abbs Valley, VA, and Kenneth Ray Cook and wife Kathy of Abbs Valley, VA; 7 grandchildren, Cherish Haynes of Virginia Beach, VA, and Emily Haynes, Amber Cook, Christopher Grose, Ellisha Cook, Hunter Cook and Landon Cook of Abbs Valley, VA; three step grandchildren, Mary Beth Gills of Roanoke, VA and Amy Blevins and Stephanie Baldwin of Bluefield; three brothers, Billy J. Cook and wife Linda of Abbs Valley, VA, Jimmy C. Cook and and wife Margie of Boissevain, VA, and Roger Cook and wife Sharon of Winston-Salem, NC.; a sister, Betty Toler and husband Jimmy of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother in law, David Poseno and wife Betty of Boissevain, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11:00 at the Cook Square Cemetery in Boissevain, VA with Rev. Paul Baker officiating. Burial will follow with military honors being performed by the WV Honor Guard. Matt Synderguard, J.C. McGuire, Scott and Jamie Ross, Mark Horne, and John Paul Ealy will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. Those wishing to attend graveside services are asked to meet the funeral home on Thursday by 10:30 AM.
