Mae Elizabeith Burton

Mae Elizabeth Burton, age 87, of 4727 Middlefork, Leander, KY and formerly of Coaldale, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville, KY after a long illness. She was born on May 6, 1921 in Maybeury and was a daughter of the late Robert and Lula Woods Mitchelson. She had had been a resident of Paintsville for 31 years, was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Burton; a son, Bobby Burton; daughters, Lillian and Shirley Burton; and brothers, Paul and Howard Mitchelson. She was a loving mother to two sons, Scotty Burton, Jr. of Leander, KY, and Jimmy Burton of Dade City, FL; and a daughter, Martha Pruitt of Pikeville, KY. She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Survivors also include three sisters, Dorothy Bradshaw of SC, Mildred Howard of Detroit, MI, and Thelma Lee Wimmer of Bluefield; two brothers, Gene Mitchelson of SC, and Billy Mitchelson of SC; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. James Milam officiating. Burial will follow at the Athens Cemetery in Athens where nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
