George Saunders Davis

George Saunders “Sandy” Davis, age 70, of Route 5 Box 370-B (Bluewell), Bluefield, WV, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Mercer Nursing and Rehab in Bluefield. Born on January 14, 1939 in Coalwood, he was a son of the late Edgar “Bud” and Margaret Kelley Davis. He had been a resident of Rt. 5, Bluefield for years and attended the Southview Pentecostal Church in Bluewell. He was a retired coal miner with 10 years of service retiring from the US Steel #4 mine. He was a member of the UMWA. Survivors include: Wife: Evelyn M. Culp Davis of the home 1 stepson: Ricky Lee Culp of Bluewell 4 special nieces: Shelby Walters of Roderfield Hazel Mason of Helen, WV Wanda Blevins of Tuscaloosa, AL Helen Davis of Denton, TX Special friend and caregiver: Tommy Evans of Princeton 1 sister: Peggy Christianson of Erin, TN Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Mac McBride and Rev. Jesse Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Terry White, John Rose, David R. Blevins, Tommy Evans, Raymond Hale, and Jody Blevins serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Wednesday from 1:00- 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
