Mildred Mills Hurley, 83, formerly of Surprise, AZ, died August 17th, 2009
at her home in Bluefield,W.VA., while on comfort care after a stroke.
Mrs. Hurley was born October 14th, 1926 in W.VA., and lived in Kentucky, Minnesota, California,Nevada, Iowa, Colorado and Arizona before coming home to W.VA. in 2007. She was a coal miner’s daughter, master gardener, award wining horsewoman, wife,mother,and homemaker,banker, travel agent, fantastic cook and avid animal rights advocate.
She is survived by her son, Meredith Mills of Casper, WY, her daughter Melayne
Mills of Avondale,AZ, grandson Ryan Theroux and his two daughters Emalie and
Milla of Mission, TX, her sister Helen Mae Houchins of Bluefield and her two
daughters, Betsy Honaker of Bluefield and Beth Gibson of Bristol, TN and her
two daughters, Sara and Kathryn, her cousin Jack Workman of Charleston,
W.VA, and stepmom Ruth Webb of Beckley,W.VA.
Mrs. Hurley requested no service be held, and that her ashes be scattered in
one of her favorite W.VA. places.
In her final hours, she wished that in lieu of flowers or condolences to the family, donations be made in her name to Pet Haven Animal Rescue Center in Falls Mills, VA, 24613; phone: 276-326-3483.
