Brushfork, WV – Jimmy Marvin Scott, age 70, of Route 4 Box 191 (Brushfork), Bluefield, WV, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born November 24, 1938 in McComas, WV, he was the son of the late Troy P. and Ruth Taylor Scott. He was a resident of Brushfork most of his life where he was a member of the Brushfork First Church of God for over 40 years. Jimmy served in the USMC and retired from Eastern Associated Coal, Keystone, WV after 30 years in mining. He loved fishing and was a long time fan of Blue Grass music. His love for Blue Grass included a daily Blue Grass and Classic Country Radio program on WSME, Jacksonville NC and more recently bringing renowned Blue Grass entertainment to “Blue Top Blue Grass” in Brushfork. He will be remembered for his smile and hat as he greeted blue grass fans to “Blue Top Blue Grass” and his opening each show with; prayer, the pledge of allegiance to the flag and time for all to greet one another. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Eddie Scott, a brother-in-law Kenneth Stafford and sister-in-law Naomi Hager and her husband George Hager. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elenor Caroline Poe Scott, Brushfork, WV; two daughters, Becki Y. Artrip and Johnny Rose, Bluefield WV, Kimberly and Jeff Handy, Fairfax Station, VA and one son Terry M. Scott, Peru, Indiana. He was survived by one sister Carol Stafford of Princeton and sister-in-law Mary Scott of Monroe, Michigan. He was survived by 5 grandchildren: Jonathan and Matthew Rose, Tyler Blakemore, Christa Artrip, and Dr. Nicole Franklin and husband Darren. Additionally he was survived by nieces and nephews Billy Hager, Linda Corey, Lane Stafford, Julie Crouch and Mike Scott. Pallbearers will be Clayton Wagner, Ken Dickens, Billy Hager, Jeff Handy, Darren Franklin and Lane Stafford. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.R Billings and Joe Lively, hosts of J. & J. Blue Grass Classics. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brushfork First Church of God on Falls Mills Road with Pastor Jimmie Russ officiating. Burial will follow in the Last Supper Gardens, Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
